Becoming an official is a great opportunity to use your skating talents and love for hockey to put some extra cash in your pocket. If you are a current or alumni skater and have the desire to be involved, we are looking for you. New Richmond Youth Hockey Association needs officials to cover all home games for Mite to Bantam levels. Officials are paid for each game officiated and payment schedules are based on the level of the game.
The association is in need of members interested in becoming referees (as well as having as many current refs return as possible!). To be eligible to officiate, it is necessary for anyone interested to attend an annual referee seminar. The Wisconsin Hockey Officials Association (WHOA) hosts seminars prior to each season. Additional information on requirements and the registration process may be found at:
If you'd like to learn more or have any questions not handled on the WHOA site please contact Brian Olson or Tony Milliron.
All officials are required to complete training seminars, which include classroom sessions as well as on ice training. Seminars are scheduled throughout the state of Wisconsin and are a full day of training. Each participate must complete the seminar as well as a written exam and successfully pass the exam to be eligible to officiate games.
Additionally, background screening is now required! Any official who is 18 or older as of July 31, 2007 and who wishes to officiate USA Hockey games in Wisconsin must have a background check. This background screening must be done before one can register for a seminar in Wisconsin. Exception for brand new Level 1 official: He or she may register prior to the screening....but must complete screening before the seminar attendance will be recorded.
