Grant Writer
Purpose: To identify, apply for, and secure external grant funding from corporate, foundational, and government sources. These funds directly support NRYHA’s capital improvements, equipment upgrades, player development programs, and community outreach programs.
Position Type: Volunteer (Full Season Work Hours)
Key Responsibilities
1. Research & Identification
- Prospecting: Actively research and identify local, regional, and national grant opportunities (e.g., USA Hockey foundation grants, corporate community foundations, local municipal capital grants).
- Eligibility Assessment: Review grant guidelines to ensure NRYHA meets all criteria before initiating the application process.
- Grant Calendar Management: Maintain a centralized calendar tracking application deadlines, reporting dates, and evaluation milestones.
2. Proposal Development & Writing
- Narrative Crafting: Write clear, compelling, and persuasive grant proposals that effectively articulate NRYHA’s mission, community impact, and financial need.
- Collaboration: Partner with the Board President, Treasurer, and committee chairs (such as the Finance Committee and Player and Coach Development Committee) to gather necessary data, program details, and financial budgets.
- Documentation Assembly: Collect and organize required supplementary materials, including 501(c)(3) determination letters, financial statements, and board rosters.
3. Reporting & Stewardship
- Compliance Tracking: Monitor the post-award process to ensure all grant funds are spent in strict accordance with the grantor's requirements.
- Impact Reporting: Draft and submit timely progress reports and final evaluations to donors, highlighting how the funds benefited the youth athletes and the facility.
- Relationship Management: Maintain positive, ongoing relationships with grant officers and corporate giving representatives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Prior experience in grant writing preferred. However, professional writing, fundraising, or corporate communications experience are considered.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to tell a compelling story backed by data.
- Organization: Strong project management skills, with proven ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.
- Technical Savvy: Proficiency with collaborative tools (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office) and comfort navigating online grant submission portals.
Mite Manager
We are currently looking for multiple mite managers for the 2026-2027 season. This position does run longer than the regular season (starting sometime in July) as there are many different events put on by the mite program that managers will assist the Mite Director's with.
Duties may include, but are not limited to (depending on level):
- Sending weekly communications
- Coordinating hotel (if there is an away jamboree/tournament)
- Looking for & setting up scrimmages
- Communication with other associations
- Planning & scheduling for the home jamboree
- Coordinate pictures
- Planning & scheduling in-house jamboree/end of year party
- Assist with GOAL, Learn to Skate, Try Hockey For Free
- Ensuring Crossbar schedule is up to date

Home Tournament Rep
We are looking for one or multiple people to assist at each of our home tournaments this season.
- Will receive between 15-20 hours (depending on if you are the only one or if it will be split amongst two families) toward regular season hours. You will not have to complete additional tournament hours
- Work closely with the Tournament Director prior to your tournament
- Complete USA Hockey Number, Safesport and Background Check
- Make sure all volunteer spots are covered in SignUp Genius and people are completing their shifts
- Assist Coaches, officials, rink attendants, spectators, families with any questions.
- Update brackets posted in the rink and report scores to Tournament Director if needed
- Gather patches and trophies if the Tournament Director isn’t available to hand out on Sunday. Tournament Director will assist you in who gets what patches
- Be available for all of your division's tournament games or work with other tournament rep to make sure that someone is present for all games and check in with volunteers
- Help make the tournament a success and make sure that things are running smoothly. You will be the main point of contact if the tournament director is not there. You will need to understand the tournament rules and have knowledge of how the tournament is operating. You need to be able to make sound decisions. Tournament Director will be available to answer questions or concerns that may arise.
